Dr. Donald O. Fareed, M.D., F.A.A.O.S.

Dr. Fareed has been a practicing Orthopaedic Surgeon and Sports Medicine Specialist for over 30 years in Santa Barbara, California. He has served as a long-time consultant to famous athletes, members of the Davis Cup Team and other professional sports teams.

Education and Experience:

In 1969 Dr. Fareed received his Doctor of Medicine Degree from UCLA.

While at UCLA, he was a Blalock Surgical Fellowship recipient and spent his first two summers studying osteoporosis and bone metabolism. A Swift Transplantation Fellowship in his third year enabled him to work in the transplant laboratory to become proficient in vascular and micro-vascular surgical techniques.

Upon graduation from UCLA School of Medicine, Dr. Fareed spent two years in General Surgery Residency at Duke University Medical Center.

In 1971, he entered the Army as a General Medical Officer and trained in Combat Medicine at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. Thereafter he was assigned to the School of the Americas/Jungle Operations Training Center in Central America.

In 1973, Dr. Fareed was awarded a Presidential Citation, the Meritorius Service Medal for “Consistent, Bold Initiative, Superlative Leadership, Concern for His Fellow Man, Resourcefulness and Determination to Persevere Despite Formidable Obstacles”.

He completed his Orthopedic Surgery Residency with the Department of Defense at the Gorgas Memorial Hospital.

In 1977, he trained at The Armed Forces Institute of Pathology.

From 1982 to 1985 he served as Chairman of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at St. Francis Hospital in Santa Barbara, California; he served as Chairman of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, 1992 to 1996.

In 1992, he founded Pro Band Sports Industries, Inc. He successfully designed, patented and manufactures various sports medicine products, including the BandIT, KneedIT, Ankle BandIT, Arch BandIT and related magnetic supports. He has numerous patents credited to his name.

In 1977, Dr. Fareed entered private practice in Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine, Specializing in Arthroscopic Surgery with Holmium Laser. He uses this minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery technique upon shoulders, elbows, knees and ankles. His conservative approach is based on many years of experience and expertise in the functionality of the human anatomy. This technique aids in the healing and recovery process and limits ones “down-time” in the process.
